Ecological transition: our commitment to the future

Sustainability and efficiency in Ifi solutions
Sustainable innovation has always been at the heart of Ifi's vision.
This is why we have dedicated time, resources and experience to accommodate and partly anticipate the change of pace required by the European Union, which, with increasingly stringent directives, is driving the ecological transition in our industry as well.
The Ecodesign and Energy Label and F-GAS directives set new standards to reduce energy consumption and the greenhouse effect, tracing the path towards a future with less environmental impact.
True to its DNA, Ifi has turned these challenges into opportunities. Thanks to intensive research and targeted investments, we have developed state-of-the-art solutions that fully comply with European directives and guarantee maximum safety, efficiency and superior performance.
Ecodesign Directive and Energy Label = reduced consumption
What Ifi has done
We have reduced the energy consumption of our refrigerated solutions, lowered emissions and developed an efficient and high-performance product offering. All Ifi refrigerated display cases and solutions are equipped with an energy label, which can be consulted and downloaded from the individual product pages of the website: a tool that helps all of us consumers to make eco-conscious choices.
How Ifi has done it
- by adopting natural gas R290 (propane) to replace R452A gas on all products with an on-board condensing unit;
- by choosing electronically controlled fans, which are more efficient and safer and guarantee significant energy savings;
- by devising the EVC Smart System condensate evaporation system that reduces energy use thanks to an intelligent management system of the condensate evaporation tray that only comes into operation when actually needed;
- by adding the ‘on/off’ anti-fogging system that only activates the heating of the glass panes in the presence of particular humidity conditions;
- by choosing lighting systems with the latest generation of LEDs with greater efficiency and luminous intensity.

F-gas Directive = reduction of the greenhouse effect
What Ifi has done
On all products with on-board condensing unit, we switched from the use of synthetic R452A (fluorinated) gas to R290 (propane), a natural gas that is harmless to the greenhouse effect compared to the fluorinated refrigerants commonly available on the market. Due to its intrinsic characteristics, propane brings a number of benefits and advantages for the end user:
- minimal environmental impact;
- higher thermodynamic efficiency;
- reduced energy consumption;
- savings on bills.
R290 is a highly efficient and environmentally friendly gas, but its use requires specific skills and adherence to strict safety standards.
This is why, at Ifi, we have implemented stringent internal controls, updated our production chain and designed solutions with exclusive components to ensure maximum reliability at every stage: from production to daily use and after-sales maintenance.
How Ifi has done it
- by replacing all electrical and electronic components in our products with anti-ignition components;
- by renewing the entire production process through the introduction of new equipment to ensure maximum safety of products and personnel working on propane gas solutions;
- creating products with hermetic systems designed with exclusive Ifi components that simplify gas recharge and disposal operations, facilitating maintenance in compliance with safety;
- establishing strict internal safety checks and tests at various stages of processing in order to verify the hermeticity of propane gas systems on 100% of the products.

European Directives driving the transition
1) Ecodesign and Energy Label Directive for the reduction of energy consumption (European Directive 2009/125/EC - 2010/30/EU)
As of 1 September 2023, only refrigerated display cabinets up to energy class F may be placed on the market throughout the European Union: each display cabinet must be equipped with an energy label. The aim is not only to reduce energy consumption, but also to make public venue operators increasingly aware of the consumption of the equipment needed for their work.
2) F-GAS (Fluorinated Gases) Directive for Reducing the Greenhouse Effect (EU Regulation 2024/573 on fluorinated greenhouse gases, amending EU Directive 2019/1937 and repealing Regulation (EU) No. 517/2014)
As of 1 January 2025, the placing on the market of refrigerated display cabinets with on-board motors that use fluorinated greenhouse gases, such as R452A gas, is prohibited throughout the European Union. In response to this directive, Ifi has adopted R290 propane gas, an environmentally friendly and sustainable natural gas, for all its products with on-board motors.
