Since 1956 ADI has brought together designers, companies, researchers, teachers, critics and journalists around the themes of design: design projects, consumption, recycling and training. It is the leading player in the development of industrial design as a cultural and economic phenomenon. Its purpose is to promote and contribute to implement, on a non-profit basis, the most appropriate conditions for designing goods and services, through cultural debate, intervention in institutions and provision of services. Since 1962, it has owned and managed the Compasso d’Oro award, the oldest award in Europe in the design sector and its historic collection contains winning objects and documentation, promoting historical research and putting on exhibitions providing more detailed knowledge.

IFI supports the Il Cantiere del Logo event organised by the Sociology Faculty of Urbino University. This initiative was intended to make Urbino the reference point of the link between brand and region, freeing the city from the stereotype of a place locked in defence of a glorious past, rather than aimed at understanding a dynamic present and continually speeding up.
In the main courtyard of Venaria Palace, the Tonda display case received a Mention at the 21st ADI Compasso d’Oro award. IFI thus joined the historic collection of the famous design awards as a product of national interest.
At Europain (Paris), IFI received the award of the same name as a company that had distinguished itself especially through innovation.
The art of design and the art of gelato-making come together in Affresco, a designer gelato parlour concept, an elegant space in the form of a palette, created by designer Beppe Riboli in conjunction with students from NABA (New Fine Arts Academy in Milan). Bellevue with Panorama technology, designed by Marc Sadler in conjunction with IFI’s R&D department, won the first Compasso d’Oro in ADI’s history awarded to the artisan gelato sector. Bellevue with Panorama technology represents a brand new synthesis of two fundamental characteristics of artisan gelato-making that have always been the antithesis of each other: perfect preservation of the gelato in pozzetto counters and visibility of the flavours in display cases. IFI’s name thus reached the highest rank of the design hall of fame, together with the names of designers and companies that have made the history of industrial design and to which falls the task of renewing the prestige of Italian know-how in the world.
