With over 9.000 pounds of gelato served in 78.000 cups and cones, the Millennium Park Gelato Village registered an incredible audience flow. First in line were TV, Radios and newspapers, which captured and broadcasted the event that made Chicago the capital of artisan gelato for three days.
On the starting blocks, 16 teams of artisan gelato makers coming from the entire American continent ran the gelato Olympics on top of the most innovative gelato display cases by IFI, competing for an equally international podium.
Awarded with the 1st place was the flavor “Amor-acuyà” of the Colombian Daniela Lince Ledesma, Dolce Gelato, Medellin Colombia. Double gold medal for the young gelato maker, who also managed to win the Tonda Challenge by IFI with two amazing scores, earning the sought after Golden Gelato Spatula.
The 2nd step of the podium was gained by the local flavor “Chicago Pothole” by Angelo Lollino and Ali Caine Hung of Vero Coffee & Gelato, Illinois.
A 3rd place coming from Canada with Tammy Giuliani of Stella Luna Gelato Cafè, Ottawa, with the flavor “Rich Chocolate, KOVAL Single-Barrel Organic Bourbon, Ganache Swirl & Maple-Candied Pecans”.
Together with the first three places, another Master gelato Maker will compete as a finalist at the 2017 Grand Finale in Rimini: Gianluigi Dellaccio of Dolce Gelati Cafè, Washington USA, with the flavor “Saffron Pistachio with Candied Lemon Peel Gelato”, awarded with the Judge’s Special Mention.
Five other flavors received a special mention, but all the Master gelato makers have been equally applauded by the technical Jury and by the multitude of visitors, who did not leave their place in line not even under the pouring rain, staying still to cheer the 1st winner: gelato!
